  • High Adventure Scouts !

As we build our high adventure plans for the coming year I would like input on activities.

    1. Fall Hike:  for the past few years we have taken a weekend hike along the North Country Trial in Northern Michigan.  It has served as a great end-of-season walk through the woods along with early shakedown / prep hike for new scouts just entering the High Adventure program.  We have a couple options this year:
      • Return to Northern Michigan similar to past years (however those involved in varsity football or marching band will have a conflict); or
      • Stay local, and do a hike perhaps along the Potawanami Trail in Pinckney, that would involve only spending Saturday night (footballers and band members could support); or
      • Stay local and do a 1 day hike, no packs, along the Paint Creek trail, Saturday only, for those scouts needing a 20 mile hike to fulfill the Hiking Merit Badge requirements.
    2. Easter Backpacking Trip:  plan is to go to the Smoky Mountains again.   We are working through options since not all schools have the same vacation week.
    3. Summer 2009: the troop is sending 2 crews to Philmont in August, 2009.   For those not attending Philmont, do you have ideas on other high adventure activities or trips that might be of interest to you ?  Here are some ideas to consider:
      • Canoe trip
      • Rafting
      • Rock Climbing

Please give us your ideas so we can build a plan that reflects your wants !

    My e-mail address is:  rrazzano@wowway.com

     Mr. Razzano

Troop, we have enough leaders to make the trip (2 deep leaders plus 2). We have enough seats for those signed up.

  • Need Parents - Drivers For Cedar Point

    Parents

We need 2 more parents to drive and seats for 8 scouts for this weekends trip to Cedar Point or we will have to cancel. The troop will reimburse for gasoline.

You may contact me at 248-650-0146 or e-mail me at billburlingame@eaton.com

The weather forecast calls for 80 degrees and partly cloudy. What an opportunity for quality time with the next generation.

  • Response Requested: Popcorn Pickup Tommorrow Night 9/19

The popcorn sale begins 9/20 -- and history has shown it's easier to sell more in the first week

Also, we will have a quantity of popcorn for you to have for show & sell, that you can pick up tomorrow night. The advantage here is that you sell the popcorn selling door to door or parked at Starbucks (or wherever you have retailer permission from) and you are done -- no going back to make deliveries and collect money in November.

If you want show & sell inventory, please respond. Figure out how much you want based on your last year's order (we can help you with that). Click reply to this email and we'll get the message. We need to know who is interested in this so we can allocate product.

So speak up -- don't just read this and think you'll get to it later. There is no later. Do it now! We're working hard here so you folks can make some money. It's go time people! Take advantage of the "show and sell" to sell more product and save yourself some hassle in the long run.

I know Nick Scarlatelli sold over $1000 this way -- selling door to door and delivering popcorn same day via the golf cart. Good if you have a golf cart. This method works.

I've attached the popcorn instructions letter -- have a look at it for the key dates and more detail

  • Meeting Tuesday, September 16th @ CH

Bring your scout books to the Tuesday meeting at the Community House so we can update the advancement records. The Moose patrol has flags. The topic will be Ediible plants. We will be collecting permission slips for Cedar Point and discussing the Camporee in October.

  • Cameron's Eagle Project

Hey scouts, this is Cameron Miller and I am looking for volunteers for my Eagle project this Sunday, September 14th at 2 pm and I estimate that it will take 3 hours or less.  We will be doing a small wetland clean-up project, and will be meeting at my house, 4150 Bold Meadows in Oakland Township.  Since I overestimated the cost of my project and have some extra money available, there will be some good food and drinks.  If you want some service hours and can help out, contact me for more details.

  • About the Troop Web site and the problems logging in

I can see that many of you are having trouble logging in to the web site. Two issues here. Some of you may wonder why you must login to download files, after all it is a hassle. Secondly, why is not working?

First, we have a need to protect our personal information, and have pledged to keep Scout indentity information safe. Login is a pain, but it's not like we are asking you to take off your shoes and belt. We tried having a mix of public and private file folders, but internally we could not seem keep this straight ... so rather than risk breaking our promise to keep information secure, everything except this blog needs a login now.

Second, it is not working for some of you because we changed servers in August. I sent out notes explaining this change and asked that people experiencing problems write me.

Try this:click the login link in the upper right corner of the site, and remember that your password is case sensitive.

Still having trouble (caused by the "remember me on this computer" cookie that the old server gave you) you need to clear your browser cache of temporary files and delete the old cookie.

The instructions on how to do this vary depending on what web browser you have. People using Internet Explorer 6 will have the most trouble with the most web sites and I heartily recommend you upgrade to either IE7 or Firefox.

Still need help, please contact me -- my email address is scott.schuster at cvctroop125.org (I did not make my email a hot link to defeat the spammers who comb our web site on a regular basis.) This blog is one of the only areas of the site open to the whole internet. Bloggers/authors should keep in mind that notes like one can be read by anyone on the internet, and people will form judgments about our fine group based on what they read here. Also, this is not a good place to publicize personal phone numbers or email addresses. Okay, now get back to your pie shifts!

    Be happy in your work!!

    Cordially,

    Scott Schuster

  • Handicapped Parking Monitoring- Scout Volunteer Times

The troop is again doing the Arts & Apples handicapped parking lot for community service on Saturday and Sunday. We need scouts to commit to two hours service time either Saturday or Sunday helping at the handicapped parking area at the park off Pine Street. Times are 9-11 AM, 11-1 PM, 3-5 PM  both days. Scouts are to wear their uniform. This counts for advancement. Snacks & drink will be available.

  • Popcorn Sale Key Dates

Troop 125 will be selling popcorn this year, in the same format as last year. You'll have the chocie of selling by "take order," by "show & sell" and by any combination of the two methods.

Amy Schuster is the chairperson again.

    Key Dates:

Popcorn packets distributed: 9/16 Troop meeting

    Popcorn Sale officially begins 9/20

Show&Sell (inventory to sell) Pickup at Schuster's house on 9/19

This is just a heads up, more info is on the way!

  • Directions to Dough Night, Pie Baking and Selling locations

These detailed, cinnamon-scented maps have been lovingly prepared by Laurie Simon. Just one more thing the Pie Committee is doing to enhance the spirit of fun, cameraderie and "Bridge Over The River Kwai" style work ethic that are the hallmarks of our Troop 125 Mile High Pie event.

Remember, be happy in your work!  Enjoy the attached Mitch Miller classic "Colonel Bogey March."
